Sethule Orphans
HIV/Aids has lead to many orphans and child-headed families all over Southern Africa. In the Matopo area Sethule tries to give a future to orphans by providing education, access to healthcare and nutrition. Sethule is involved in family tracing and fostering for the orphans. Breavement counselling programmes for children and grandparents who have lost
their children are also provided.
A recent register of orphans in the Natisa district was completed: this showed that more than 500 children under 12yrs live without parents in a community of about 5000 people. The true orphans (those with both parents deceased) and those in specially severe circumstances are being prioritized.
Sethule does not run an orphanage but integrates all the children in families in the community, thus ensuring they can lead as normal a life as possible. Support is provided to foster parents for their care.
